Pam Reed is an ultrarunning legend and the first person to complete a 300-mile run without sleep in 2005 , breaking Dean Karnazes’s then-record of 262 miles. She completed the run in slightly less than eighty hours (read more).

In 2003, she set the women’s record for the USATF 24-hour track run, which she still holds. She is the only woman to have won the Badwater 135 Mile Ultramarathon (in both 2002 and 2003). In 2002, her win set the women’s course record, which was broken in 2008 by Jamie Donaldson. Reed is the current female American record holder in six-day marathons after completing 490 miles in the Twelfth-Annual Self-Transcendence Six-Day Race in New York. She completed the multiday race on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Reed is the author of the book The Extra Mile: One Woman's Personal Journey to Ultra-Running Greatness Rodale, Inc. (ISBN 1-59486-415-2).

She is a 53 now and is still active in ultra running as a runner and is also the race director for the Tucson Marathon. She runs a household with 5 children and exemplifies what a human body can achieve irrespective of gender and age. (ref wiki)
